What Changed — and What Didn't

The battery is physically the same — 4,900mAh, 45W wired charging, 15W wireless. The endurance improvement comes from the 3nm Exynos 2500 drawing less power than the chip it replaced, not from a larger cell. Samsung extracted more screen-on time without changing the hardware that stores the energy.

But the cycle rating in the European Energy Label database tells a different story. The S25 FE was listed at 2,000 charge cycles. The S26 FE reportedly sits around 1,200 — a 40% drop Samsung has not publicly explained.

What Cycle Rating Means in Practice

A charge cycle is one full discharge and recharge. Lower cycle ratings mean the battery reaches 80% of its original capacity sooner. At 1,200 cycles with daily charging, the S26 FE's battery would theoretically cross that threshold in about three years. At 2,000 cycles, the S25 FE would reach the same point after roughly five.

That is the trade-off: better daily endurance now, faster degradation over the phone's lifespan. For buyers who upgrade every two years, the difference is invisible. For anyone who keeps a phone for three or four years, the battery's aging curve matters more than its day-one score.

Why It Happened

Samsung has not confirmed the reason, but the most likely explanation involves the charging profile. More aggressive charge management — pushing harder to reach full capacity quickly, or optimizing discharge curves for longer active use — can stress battery chemistry in ways that lower its total lifetime. The Exynos 2500's power efficiency may also mean Samsung relaxed certain protective limits, betting that users would accept faster aging in exchange for tangible daily improvements.

The S26 FE remains a strong phone for its $699 price — the endurance gain is real and measurable. But the hidden cost shows up on a timeline that benchmarks do not test.
