Google began rolling out Personal Intelligence for Gemini in Android Auto on October 20. The rollout is gradual, so it will reach some cars and phones before others. The feature is opt-in and off by default.

Gemini has been in Android Auto globally since November 2025. Personal Intelligence now lets it draw on the Google apps you choose to connect, so answers can come from your own data instead of the open web.

What you can ask

The examples are practical rather than flashy. Ask whether your flight is delayed, or what your gate is, and Gemini can answer from your connected apps. Ask for the address of an upcoming appointment and it can read it out, without you digging through your calendar at a red light.

That is the real change from a generic voice assistant: it answers from your own connected data, not a web search. A similar opt-in idea, with Personal Intelligence pulling from Gmail, showed up in Google Maps, as we saw with Ask Maps and its global food ordering.

How we got here

Personal Intelligence debuted on Gemini in January 2026 and reached free users globally in April. Our earlier coverage looked at Personal Intelligence and image generation, along with Android Auto issues, where frustrated drivers were pointed back to Google Assistant as a fallback. We also covered the proactive assistance feature, and the assistant's move to the desktop when Gemini went desktop-native on Mac.

What is not confirmed

Some details come from secondary reports and Google has not spelled them out in the material we could see. One report says cars with Google built-in, which run Android Automotive, will get the feature "in the coming months," and that personalized results there may require your phone to be connected over Bluetooth. Eligibility is also reported as personal accounts aged 18 and over, excluding the EEA, Switzerland, the UK and Nigeria. Treat both as unverified until Google documents them. One outlet also gave October 19 as the start date, while most say October 20.

If you do not see the option yet, keep the app updated and check back. Because it is off by default, nothing changes until you turn it on and pick which accounts and apps Gemini may use. Google's AI push into the car is now clearly about your data, not just your voice, and that is why the opt-in matters. We also recently covered a smaller Android Auto signal icon fix on the same Android platform.
